THE GOOD BROTHERS

“Stop not turning the thing!”

When Jared and Audrey shared a bathroom, they'd often need to take showers right after one another. If Audrey went first, she had a habit of not “turning the thing” after her shower — that is, not turning the handle between the hot and cold knobs that switched the water flow between the showerhead and the bathtub faucet. Their bathrooms would also not reset between the two automatically.

When Jared would turn the knobs for his own shower right after her, the water would inevitably burst out and start falling directly onto his head. In frustration, he would yell out, “Stop not turning the thing!” to Audrey, not that she was even listening.

These incidents were similar to the “flush your urine!” episodes. Both involved an annoyed Jared yelling out a command from within a fully-closed bathroom as if anyone could hear and understand him from elsewhere in the house.

Through their many years of sharing a bathroom, whether permanently or just when they'd return home for a visit, Audrey seemingly NEVER turned the thing. Jared would constantly get splashed on the head with cold water and barely anyone cared.  ❒
