JOSH AND JARED'S CLUBHOUSE

Two losers with no podcast

For a while, Josh and Jared wanted to start a podcast. They knew they both loved to talk, and – more importantly – they loved to hear themselves talk, just like many other young men.

And just like countless others who have thought about podcasting, they had no idea what to talk about. For a second, they were going to try music reviews, but they couldn't think of a unique angle. Eventually, they decided to discuss what they knew best – their own lives. It was for their own sick amusement, after all.

But they couldn't decide on a name. (Obviously, they spent hours thinking of a name before recording even a minute of content.) At some point, “Couch Talk” was floated. Josh seemed to be okay with it, although he didn't love it. Jared thought it needed punching up, and suggested “Loser Talk” instead.

Immediately, Josh vetoed the name. He hated it.

Jared actually liked it the more he thought about it, his reasoning being that the self-deprecating style would attract people's attention. He figured listeners wouldn't be as quick to judge the podcast's pointless premise if Josh and Jared called themselves losers first. Still, Josh couldn't be convinced. “I'm not doing Loser Talk,” he said repeatedly. And that was that.

Eventually, the two went on to record a few minutes of pilot content, falling back on the earlier music idea. But it quickly devolved into fooling around. Josh tried to end the recording but Jared kept it going to make sound effects.

To this day, they have not tracked any legitimate podcast material. They are both still interested in trying again, but given the nature of Jared's career, he refuses to release anything other than a top-quality, high-effort project with a planned schedule and regular marketing.  ❒
