Breaking Point and Coming of the Age

Breaking Point and Coming of the Age were two bands that Josh and Jared told their drama class they listened to. The bands' existences were, and are, disputed.

Breaking Point was theoretically a very angsty, dramatic, whiny rock (“emo”) band, not unlike the ones that may have been heard in Hot Topic. The name signified the mental state of the band and its music: being at their “breaking point” emotionally. The band consisted of Amanda M., Patty, and Erynn, though none of their music was ever publicly shared.

Coming of the Age was another angsty band, and one Jared would tell people was his favorite if they asked about his music taste. They were supposedly a bit more political than Breaking Point. Their name was a reference to a generic, unnamed “revolution” or society's arrival at a “new age” (like adolescence).

Unlike Breaking Point, there were a couple of known soundbites associated with Coming of the Age. The first was a vocal of the supposed singer crooning wordlessly, and the second was an emphatic (and off-key) shout of, “Coming of the AGE!”

Along with Josh and Jared, Dani C. was a known fan of Coming of the Age, even using the crooning vocal as her cell phone ringtone for a time.

There was absolutely no point to any of it other than for the guys' own sick amusement.  ❒
