The Howdy Doody theme

When Jared and Audrey were young, there was a Carvel commercial they'd see on TV all the time. Everyday kids took turns singing lines in a jingle about something they achieved that day deserving of a Carvel ice cream cake, to the tune of “Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay.” (“I lost my tooth today!... I starred in my school play!...”)

After one particular airing, Spephen mentioned that the jingle also shared a melody with the theme song to Howdy Doody, a children's program he grew up watching. He demonstrated, singing, “It's Howdy Doody time, it's Howdy Doody time!”

To that, Jared said, “Oh, that's the theme song? I thought it was, “HowDAY DooDAY... duh nuh nuh nuh nuh... HowDAY DooDAY... duh nuh nuh nuh nuh…”

For no reason at all, Jared enunciated the name of the show with the cadence of... say, a mentally-challenged individual.

“No!” Spephen said incredulously. “That's not the theme song at all.”

From then on, whenever the Carvel commercial played, Jared would be reminded to break out his rendition of the Howdy Doody theme song. He continued doing it periodically well into adulthood and even still today.
