“I need to go home and die”

When Audrey has been out all day and is extremely tired, she'll often say, “I need to go home and die.”

It's a very fitting saying that perfectly captures the existential sleepiness of the situation. If she were to say, “I need to go home and sleep,” it would imply that she is just retiring to bed normally for the evening. If it was, “I need to go home and take a nap,” that could mean that she would be refreshed and ready to go out again after a quick rest.

But both of those are fundamentally untrue. When Audrey needs to go home and die, she needs to absolutely collapse onto her deathbed and not wake up. It's very different from, say, Jared, who can choose to lie down for a nap but continue to giggle and yell things out for a bit before sleeping.

If one hears Audrey say, “I need to go home and die,” they know not to expect to see or hear from her ever again.  ❐
